Another 1,000,000+ Guns Added to American Homes in August

Background Checks On Firearm Sales Up 12% In August.
Americans buy 1,074,757+ guns in August 2009


Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- Data released by the FBI�s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reported 1,074,757 checks in August 2009, a 12.3 percent increase from the 956,872 reported in August 2008.

So far that is roughly 9,076,205 gun bought this year! The total is probably more as NICS background checks may cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time.

This latest jump in background checks show that Americans are solidly in-favor of keeping firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens and clearly shows that proponents claiming the USA wants more gun control are blatantly wrong.


Gun Owners Say No to Gun Conrtol with their Wallets

The increased trend of Americans buying firearms at a record pace was once thought to be a one time fluke caused by fears of the new Obama administration expressed lust for more gun control. But now 10 months in and the wrongly named �fear buying� has now become the norm as law abiding US citizen exercise their constitutional right to keep and bear firearms by the millions every month with no sign of slowing down.

The bulk of the buying has been concentrated on the following types of guns or calibers:

Semi Auto Handguns
Revolvers
Ar15s and all variants of the Black Rifle
.50 Caliber


1.17 Guns for Each Person

Conservative estimates of legally owned guns in the USA put the number at 355,029,250 million guns in the USA. That is 1.17 guns for everyone in the USA and if you listen to the liberal press they are all assault weapons. God bless anyone who tries to invade the USA�

On the other hand, it doesn't really mean 1M new guns were added to American households (unfortunately), as I'm sure many of those checks were for guns that were simply changing hands.

I did my part this weekend, picked up a G19 new for $533 + tax
The dealer made a comment that people were buying because of fear obama was going to take away gun rights.
I told him that was not the case, that most are buying because of the coming collapse and skyrocketing crime rate.
I gotta say, I do like the compact XD...but it made sense to get another glock, due to magazine versatility to my G26.
Thinking about putting a light on the 19...what do you think, light w/laser, or no laser?
Which model/make?

Why were shotguns left off this list?

I know there were far more shotguns purchased, than .50 cal. rifles.

In all my years of shooting at various rifle ranges, I've only seen one .50 cal.

LASER all the way. Nothing more disconcerting to a bad guy than having that 'little dot' show up on his/her chest. Pretty much ENDS any problems. If not, one pull and it WILL end the problem.

Consider Lasermax. NOT CHEAP by any means. I'm considering then for my Glocks.

.50 cals are not allowed at my rifle range.

What good is a rifle if you have no where to practice with it?

Perhaps the .50 caliber mentioned are black powder deer rifles? More hunters could be interested in getting an early jump on deer season.

No new guns but I did just buy 880 Milsurp rounds for teh Mosin. 50 cals nice for out west maybe with a huge line of sight....hard to see more than 500 around here...of course this is all just prep for <ahem> deer season. US for A w00t!

doubtful , muzzle loaders arent considered "guns' by the BATF, they can be bought in a blister pack in Wal Mart next to the fishing line.

The targets won't be "American citizens" but rather "domestic terrorists."

First of all I wear a "digital camo helmet" so my point is not speculation as is yours. What is your source (if you have one). I have "REAL" conversations on a regular basis with my soldiers, not internet jam sessions full of rumors and I read somewheres. As I already said, some will follow unlawful orders. The majority will not. If you lump the majority of the military into your delusion then the only fool here is you.

I didn't buy one this month, but I took my new boss shooting. She's 65, lives alone with a small dog, had never fired a gun, but had a carry permit, and she was dying to learn to shoot. She shot my Ruger .22, my Smith & Wesson 642 .38, and my Colt and Springfield .45s (because everyone should shoot a 1911 their first time out so they know what a real pistol is supposed to feel like). She did great, and she loved it! I'm betting she's going to buy her own .38 before the month is out, so I sort of did my part...
